Once upon a time when I was redesigning this site, I had a thought that I could make a pretty awesome community site, and judging by this blooming community I have created here it turns out I was right! *ahem* No, clearly something went wrong in between. I wanted to keep my stuff, but I still wanted to make use of the cool event/tournament management you can see on here. My heart was and still is not in it to give it away.
My solution, is to make a different version of this site, but make it more user safe (better post interfaces), and with more gaming focused content. To get things started, I have some awesome features planned that already deviate from clux.org substantially:
1. Markup can add event specific content for coverage with bbcode markup. E.g. [seedlist 8]event_id[/seedlist] to get the list of seeds from that event without having to manually construct it, with username linking to profiles, and complete with country flags etc. This makes writing coverage posts easy as hell. [resultslist], [group nr], [match id] are other planned features.
2. Ability to add non-registered users to tournaments, and the ability to claim such placeholder accounts for quickly creating solid coverage yet maintaining user-focus.
3. Tight video integration with own3d.tv and youtube without having to mess around with the bbcode.
4. Accounts linked to default games, giving you only the coverage you are interested in.
5. Nothing taken away from tournament creation. Anyone can still create any kind of tournament/league/replay challenge and keep it entirely concealed to the small number of users the owner decides to invite.
Anyway, I think it can turn out really great and a lot of my spare time is spent hacking away at it. If you have any ideas of what should be in a gaming community, now is the time to comment. Oh, and I own the domain
deathmat.ch for this purpose. How awesome is that?
and I liked it.
